Make A Difference Day 2013 Wrap-up
We Made A Difference! – “Make a Difference Day 2013,” presented by The News-Star PAWS of NE Louisiana would like to thank the volunteers and participants that came out to Petco on October 26th for the offsite adoption and Make A Difference Day 2013, hosted by PAWS of NELA, sponsored by The News-Star, DeltaStyle Magazine and Petco, and funded by a generous grant from the Gannett Foundation. Your involvement in this community event helped make this event a huge success. Many thanks to The News-Star employees who gave up their afternoons to help make the event a success! Lots of information regarding animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, the importance of spaying and neutering pets, and local resources available to pet owners was distributed to hundreds of attendees of the “Pet Ownership Awareness Fair.” Volunteers of PAWS and The News-Star were able to microchip and register 220 pets, and make 196 pet ID tags…all for FREE… thanks to this grant! If those pets ever go missing, they have a much greater chance of getting back home by being micro-chipped and/or having an ID tag on their collar. The PAWS’ offsite adoption event found loving homes for four shelter animals, too. So, all in all, it was a great day! There was an impressive turnout for the pet costume contest sponsored by The News-Star. The judges, including The News-Star’s executive editor Kathy Spurlock, had a difficult task in choosing the top three winners of the day! We deeply appreciate this grant from the Gannett Foundation and think everyone had a good day as they learned about the resources available to help them have healthier and happier pets while “Making a Difference” in the lives of our community. The News-Star has numerous photos of the event in their photo gallery and the online article on the event (Sunday, October 27th edition) includes a great video explaining the background of “Make a Difference Day” and the importance of volunteerism and helping your community.
